About Held

Why did you start the brand Held?

We have always been passionate about making quality objects for people to enjoy and we love the idea that people can take pleasure from the things that we create. So when the opportunity arose for us as two great friends to start this journey together we couldn’t find a reason why not.

Excited to collaborate with other great creatives, we are constantly evolving to bring you better and more enticing offerings.

Where does the name ‘Held’ come from?

We intend to bring a warm and human feeling into everything we create and feel the word ‘Held’ embodies some of these principles. With making also being at the core of what we do, we use ‘Held Made’ in some contexts as a longhand variation of Held.

Who are the faces behind the brand?

Founded by two friendly designers, we are always here to answer any questions. We are usually the ones taking the photos, but do occasionally show our faces in our journal and through our social updates @held.made

Our candles

How would you describe your candles to somebody who has never seen them?

We think of our candles as moments first and objects second. We describe them as an addition to a cuddly night in, an indulgent escape or a coming together of friends. We hear them described as sculptural candles, designer candles, luxury candles and mindful candles to name a few. We embrace every way they are used and enjoyed.

Are your candles scented?

They have a very subtle smell of honey from the 100% natural beeswax, but there is no added scent. We want the candles to be used on a variety of occasions and wouldn’t want to intrude with an overpowering scent.

Does the colour vary between candles?

Beeswax naturally varies in tone depending on the flowers pollinated and the time of year at which it has been harvested, but we aim to keep our candles as consistent as possible.

How long do your candles burn for?

A long time! Generally speaking, beeswax is a slow burning material and the generous size of our candles mean they last plenty long enough for you to enjoy them. There is more information about specific burn times in the product descriptions.

What is the best wax for candles?

Beeswax is the best! We want to bring only the finest and safest materials into your home and are confident that there is no better option than beeswax. It emits a warm and inviting glow, burning brighter than other materials.

Are beeswax candles good for you?

We think so, but we don’t like to make oversized claims and prefer to let you make your own mind up. Our understanding is that when you burn beeswax candles they produce negative ions which attach to surrounding positive ions such as pollen, dust, mould and other toxins in the air helping to remove them from your environment. This process can be a great natural air purifier.

Is beeswax better than soy?

Again, we definitely believe so. Although soy is a good alternative to other waxes such as paraffin, when you take into account its links to deforestation and chemical processes of extraction it is no match for the eco credentials of natural beeswax. 100% natural beeswax candles have a superior burn, plus who doesn’t love supporting bees!

Our making process

Who makes your products and are they handmade?

All of our products are handmade in England by us. When it comes to the quality of our products the best way of guaranteeing they meet our high standard and your high expectations is to make them ourselves.

How do you develop the designs?

We are always open to different journeys of creation and aren’t set on a single way to develop our products. What does remain constant is rigorous testing and refinement to ensure our products are of the highest quality and safety. We sometimes share glimpses of the process on our Instagram @held.made

How long will it take to receive my product?

We aim to dispatch as quickly as possible, but please allow up to 3 working days. The shipping time after dispatch varies depending on your location and the postage option selected. For UK orders this will be between 1-3 business days.

How much does the shipping cost?

Shipping cost is calculated at the checkout stage based on weight and your location. We are always looking for ways to save on shipping costs and only charge you what it costs us.

What do I need to know before lighting my candle?

Please read our safety and candle care information here before lighting your candle to make sure you have the best experience possible.

Are you perfect?
